Latrell James – Twelve

Download The number Twelve is of particular significance to Boston rapper/producer Latrell James. As a result, his latest project – a DJBooth world premiere – is 12 tracks in length, capturing 12 specific moments from a 12-year period in his life. The track listing doubles as a calendar, each cut representing a month of the year, and the project culminates in the December celebration of his 24th birthday (“Candles”). Twelve is a journey from adolescence to adulthood, capturing struggle and change but most importantly celebrating the life and growth that take place. The project is a true in-house affair, as production comes from Latrell and brother Tedd Boyd (collectively known as the 5 Star Generals) and the only feature is delivered by his sister Tori Tori.

Each verse points the blame at my surroundings. The visual is an ode to where I spent 18 years of my life.
